Kendall Schorsch, right, and Ross Nieschwitz are pictured with Kendall's elk. Kendall's story is that Ross bugeled the elk in from a distance of about six hundred yards to where Kendall shot was from about twenty yards.
Even the cactus looks better now that we have had some rain. We recieved one and one half inches this last weekend. It wasn't as much as others had but it really is getting things green.
This Killdeer was laying on these eggs. When I approached she did her cripple act luring me away from the nest. Later she was back incubating the eggs.
Lex and Kristi stopped in for a visit with Mammaw on their first day here. She said she was sure glad to see them. They caught her laid up in her new "digs" at the Haven in San Antonio. Lex and Kristi are making a whirlwind pass through Texas. They drove to Dallas to visit with Kristi's family and on to Pleasanton for a visit with us. Next stop is Houston where they will be attending a wedding. After that the will be traveling home to South Carolina where their dog Ginobli has been visiting with friends.
These birds have moved in over the last eight or so years. In the sixties I never saw one further north than Kingsville. The same can be said for other species of birds too.
I traveled to Hondo, Texas, this past Friday to hunt doves. David Swierc invited me to join him and others for an opening weekend hunt. We all had a great time.
