This turkey gobbler is making all of the feeders getting something to eat and looking for the "girls".

Caught on camera

This buck, with his first set of antlers, was a four pointer. His right side is broken off. I wonder who he thought he was tough enough to fight. It will be fun trying to identify him next year with his new set of antlers.

Signs of Spring in the Brush Country...

This Yucca plant or "Spanish Dagger" as we called it when we were kids is beginning to send out its bloom. It is always one of the first thing to bloom in the brush country.
The "agarita" is also blooming. You might know that it puts on tiny fruit that is quite sweet. My grandmother's sister made agarita jelley. This took some real work I'm told. It was told that they spread a "wagon sheet" or tarp around the bottom of the bush and then beat it with a broom which made the ripe red fruit fall to the ground to be collected.

Lindsay stops in to visit with her "Mammaw".

Lindsay went to the Haven to see her Mammaw. These two girls really had a good time visiting.

Caressa and Ella drive in to San Antonio to see Lindsay

Caressa and daughter, Ella, drove in to San Antonio to see Lindsay while she was here. I think you will agree that Ella is as cute a little girl as there is. If you could see her expressions and hear her talk you would even be more impressed. She is almost two.
Time moves on and makes reunions lots of fun.

I'm guessing this javelina heard the camera taking it's picture.

Swabbing Unit

I was down at the "Borrego" Tuesday and drove to the oil well site with cousin Tom Toman. This rig was performing a swabbing operation on his well. They were making a determination on how much oil was in this well.

Look who found the feeders.

These are the first turkeys my cameras have photographed. These are all hens. It will not be long before the "toms" are strutting their stuff and mating these girls. I'm betting we are only about a week away from the start of their mating season. I'm tempted to go look in my "turkey folder" to see when they started last year. I remember that it seemed early.

Trophy Hunter Guide Award

Here I am with my Trophy Hunter Guide award hat that "Cousin Darrell" awarded me. It must be one of those safety first things, right?

Quail Hunt

It is that time of year, the only problem is the quail are few and far between. The lack of rain last year affected the hatch and survival rate of young birds. The predators keep catching the birds that are there. So as a result the birds are scarce. It still is fun to watch a good dog work.
