Here is a picture of " Ocho Mas". He has just completed rubbing the velvet off of his antlers.

Either these deer have been watching the javelinas step up in the trough or else they are pawing through the damp feed to get to some that is dry.

Just step right up to the dinner table

These javelinas have figured out how to get their front feet into the trough for easy access to the feed.

I have seen only three adults and two young ones this year. I think that is all that are inside the highfence. I may have to raise this trough and have them go back to picking up the feed the deer drop on the ground.

Best Buddies......... for now

Pictured above are Ace and Diez. They seem to be getting along well right now. It will not be long and that will change with the onset of the rut.

A nice discovery... two different deer!

This deer I've named "Shiner". I had been thinking that it was "Ace" but something about the arrangement of the antlers kept bothering me. Compare this deer and the one below.

If you look closely you can see the difference. Notice how the G4s on Ace slant inward. Also notice the slight difference in the left brow tines. Shiner at the top is four years old and Ace at the bottom is seven. I'm guessing Shiner is an offspring of one of the does I got from the Shiner ranch soon after I high fenced and was fathered by a buck on that ranch. Ace is a native that was two when the fence went up.

Katelyn's First Birthday

We just hated to leave the Poths of South Carolina, but we had a wonderful time with them and can't wait to be back as soon as possible! Katelyn's birthday was super, Lex and Kristi, and we are so glad to be a part of the celebration weekend!

Bucks

These bucks' antlers will continue to grow during the month of August then they will begin to scrape out and remove the "velvet" beginning about the fourth week of September.

Night time is their time.

I see spots in the brush...

Cousin Tom Toman was riding around the pasture this morning with me when he spotted this fawn that you can barely make out in this picture. I wasn't able to get a clear picture for fear of spooking it. The does leave them and come back several times a day to nurse them.

Nueve?

Pictured is a deer I named "Nueve" last year because he had nine points. It looks like he will have to have his name changed because he looks like he will have ten points this year.

Bucks

You can see by this photograph that some of the bucks are ahead of others.

Black-bellied Whistling-duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis),

Here is a pair of Black Bellied Whistling-ducks with their ducklings as seen yesterday on one of the ranch tanks.

Who is that?

This is always a fun time of the year for me. I check these trail camera pictures and try to identify the different bucks. It is fun to watch the changes as they mature.

Early Morning

These bucks come in to feed during the cool of the early morning.

Does are heavy with fawns

It looks to be about time for these does. After a gestation period of about two hundred days the does start fawning usually in the month of June.

Pushing out antlers

It is always fun for me to watch the development of the different bucks' growth from year to year. These two are even showing some attitude.

Eagle Ford Shale

This is a set of tank batteries set up on the Orr lease which is located about two miles east of the Campbell Ranch on FM791. It looks like they have a compressor unit and tank for liquid gas.
